Member-state flags line the former entrance to the Palais de Nations, the United Nations Office in Geneva. Today’s United Nations is the direct descendent of The League of Nations, founded after the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. This historic inter-governmental organization had 63 member states and, with its unique and noble mission, held the promise of someday achieving a sustainable world peace.
