With my artwork I explore a variety of subject matters. My shows have focused on people’s body language, given a new meaning to trivial objects, and connected history with today.
For my compositions I use the camera as a fundamental tool. At first sight my paintings may seem purely descriptive of the visual world around us. A second look reveals that they often are part of something bigger; creating a series of works around a central theme allows me to make my point in a more complete manner.
Taking a critical view of social and political issues is not the motivation behind most of my artwork. However, I include it when appropriate. My solo exhibit This is America is a fine example.
Realism is for me not a style of choice. As a self-taught painter I feel that painting in a realistic way shows best what I want to show.
With an academic background in art history and archaeology I believe that the art and architecture of classical antiquity in the Western tradition are perennial sources for new and original artistic research. My solo exhibit The Acanthus Series, and Analysis, my latest long-term project focused on ancient Greek and Roman sculpture, illustrate this.
My paintings have found a home in private collections on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, and entered the Collection of Museum Aratro of the University of Molise, Campobasso, Italy, in 2019.
